School History

The Beginning

In 1967, the former Bishop of Hong Kong, Msgr. L. Bianchi invited the P.I.M.E. Sisters to start a Catholic secondary school for girls in Tsuen Wan. This invitation was then accepted and the first group of two sisters, Sr. Maddalena Pirodda and Sr. Theresa Pathickal, arrived in Hong Kong in September, 1968. In July the following year, the construction of the school building started.

Our school was named 'Pope Paul VI College' as the reigning Pope then was Pope Paul VI. Our school was also the first school sponsored by the P.I.M.E. Sisters in Hong Kong.

Pope Paul VI College opened its doors to the first group of students on 1st September, 1969 at the premises of Shek Lei Catholic Primary School which, at that time, was not operating the afternoon session. So our lessons were conducted only in the afternoon, and our classrooms occupied only one floor of the primary school building. Besides, our school started with 6 teachers and 220 students of form one only. The supervisor was Sr. Maddalena Pirodda and the Principal was Sr. Theresa Pathickal. At the time, no cultural or practical subjects were offered; moreover, the library and laboratories did not exist.

In August 1970, we were able to move to our own new school building. After settling down, our school began to develop from a humble beginning with 220 students and 6 teachers to the present when it is blooming with the energetic and happy faces of 58 teachers and more than eleven hundred young ladies.
