“Nourishing the Mind” A Territory-Wide Study on the Mental Health of Secondary School Students in Hong Kong 2024

As a biology student, I am grateful to participate in the “Nourishing the Mind” project, a study focused on mental health in secondary schools with my team members. Through a series of workshops, we have learned valuable research skills and decided to investigate the impact of praise on the mental health of secondary school students.

Our research, “Enhancing Mental Well-being through the Practice of Praise,” investigated how praise positively influences individuals' mental well-being and how people often overlook its effects in parenting. Through this study, we aimed to promote the intentional use of praise to improve mental health and strengthened the relationships between secondary school students and their parents.

Throughout the research process, we have sharpened our research skills, such as formulating our research topic, collecting data using questionnaires, conducting data analysis, performing critical analysis, and presenting graphics. This process not only provided us with a comprehensive understanding of the stressors but also motivated us to propose strategies and solutions to these issues. With the guidance and support of our biology teacher and mentor, our dedication and hard work were rewarded with a Silver Award in this competition. Moving forward, we will persistently explore our knowledge in new areas for the betterment of humanity.
