The Annual Speech Day of Pope Paul VI College was held on 21st June, 2024. We were honoured to have Ms. Olivia Lee Shuk Ming (Senior Scientific Officer, Hong Kong Observatory) to officiate the event. Other guests of honor included our School Supervisor, Sr. Pessanha Alves Marinei; the School Sponsoring Body Manager, Mr. Paul Wong Yee Tin; the Missionary Sisters of The Immaculate - PIME Sisters Superior Delegate, Sr. Pamei Carmela Athanlu; the Parent Manager and Vice-Chairperson of the Parent-Teacher Association, Ms. Michelle Lui Yee Ling; the Alternate Parent Manager, Mr. Ng Pak Kin; Chairperson of the Parent-Teacher Association, Ms. Cherry Chow Pui Yee and the Chairperson of the Alumnae Association, Ms. Carol Chan Hiu Wai.

The ceremony commenced with a speech by the Principal Mr. Leung Yee Ho, Genthew. The Principal encouraged the graduates to pursue not only deep professional exploration but also a broad range of knowledge that exceed the limits of the learnt knowledge within the school campus, which could further ignite their desire to explore the wider world. The goal was to inspire them to practice the values of love and service to the best of their abilities. He also emphasized that serving others involves contributing ideas, time, and energy, as well as embracing a mission that goes beyond oneself. The way in which individuals give back may differ, and the Principal encouraged the graduates to find their own unique ways to serve the community.

Furthermore, the Principal delivered a message to the students, urging them to carry this spirit with them after graduation and lead lives that are meaningful, remarkable, and fulfilling. Additionally, the Principal recognized the individuality of each student and presented them with a small white stone with the color white representing students’ ability to learn. The stones came in different shapes, symbolizing their independence and extraordinary qualities.

Then, the Guest of Honour, Ms. Olivia Lee Shuk Ming presented the graduation certificates to our graduates. She then graced the evening by addressing the graduates and guests with words of inspiration. During her speech, Ms. Lee expressed gratitude to her alma mater for nurturing her exceptional observation skills and communication abilities. She then encouraged the graduates to remain steadfast and resilient in the face of setbacks and difficulties, assuring them that as Pope Paul girls who have grown up in an atmosphere of love and care, they possess the strength, perseverance, and positive outlook on life to overcome challenges.

Drawing from her own fulfilling experience of dedicating over thirty years to the Hong Kong Observatory, Ms. Lee inspired the graduates to pursue their passions wholeheartedly, as doing so would spare them from the hardships faced in work.

The vote of thanks was then delivered by our Graduate Representatives, Cecilia Chan and Candy Wu. They expressed their gratitude towards the school for creating a nurturing atmosphere that empowered them and their fellow schoolmates to flourish, endure challenges, and foster a deep sense of appreciation. The subsequent highlight of the Speech Day was the cherished Passing-on-the-Light Ceremony. This time-honored practice symbolized the passing on of traditions, dreams and virtues from our graduates to their younger sisters.

The Speech Day continued with a momentous event—the special 55th Anniversary Kickoff Ceremony. The ceremony started off with a look at the arduous journey and determination of the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate who founded the school, highlighting the school's dedication to love, service, and education for over 50 years. Emphasis was placed on how the school has spread religious beliefs and helped underprivileged families escape poverty through education. Next, the hosts introduced the upcoming completion of the School History Gallery, encouraging students to actively participate in the 55th anniversary activities. They emphasized that by getting involved, students would not only witness a historic moment but also contribute to preserving and passing on the school's beautiful memories. Afterwards, Mr. Leung, accompanied by esteemed guests of honor and student representatives, participated in a symbolic act of sowing tomato seeds. These seeds represented the unique characteristics of each student, who require careful nurturing. This act symbolized the school's commitment to nurturing students with love, helping them grow and thrive.

The evening brought forth a mix of contemplation and elation for the graduates as they joyfully reunited with their teachers, classmates, and friends. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the proud parents, family members, and teachers, and most importantly, to the stars of today—the graduates themselves. May their future endeavors be filled with boundless happiness and resounding success.
